The photo above is a restoration project on a piece that brought in to North Mississippi on a vessel from Italy in the early 1800’s. She is based on original neoclassical sculptures by Italian artist Antonio Canova. (The original was titled "Dancing Girl with Her Hands on Her Hips" and was sculpted 1806-14)

Preparation for her treatment included, among other things diagnostic methods such as reflective UV imaging and elemental and chemical analyses. A comprehensive surface cleaning followed, which was carried out using various drycleaning methods, solvent- and water-based solvents.

Her name is Stella and isn’t she stunning.
